BonAgro Uganda

Our presence in Uganda

From its Kampala office, BonAgro Uganda works with farmers, cooperatives, commercial farms and agro-dealers across the country's main farming areas: the coffee and banana belt of Buganda, Busoga and Ankole, the arabica highlands of Bugisu and the Rwenzori foothills of Tooro, the maize and rice fields of the east and of Bunyoro, and the sesame, sorghum, cotton and groundnut farms of Teso, Lango, Acholi and West Nile. Our depots, dealers and partners keep products close to farms, and our technical team advises on product choice, timing and safe use.

Uganda lies astride the equator on a high plateau, mostly between 900 and 1,500 m above sea level, which tempers the heat and gives the south and centre two rainy seasons: the first rains from March to May and the second rains from September to November. The well-watered Lake Victoria crescent (Buganda, Busoga) is the heartland of robusta coffee, grown alongside the East African highland banana (matooke), maize, beans and cassava. Arabica coffee grows on the slopes of Mount Elgon and the Rwenzori mountains, and the cooler south-west (Ankole), now the country's main matooke-growing area, combines banana, coffee and dairy farming. Further north (Teso, Lango, Acholi, West Nile), the two seasons gradually merge into one long rainy season from about April to October, suited to sesame (simsim), sorghum, millet, groundnut, cotton and cassava. Uganda is one of Africa's largest coffee producers and exporters, and one of the world's leading banana producers.

Our mission

To help every farmer protect their crops and secure their harvests, through quality products, sound advice and practices that are safe for people and the environment.

Our vision

A more productive and more sustainable African agriculture, in which every crop protection treatment is justified, effective and well managed.

Our values

  • Proximity

Being where farmers are, listening to their constraints and their goals.

  • Rigour

Recommending the right product, at the right rate and time, rather than selling more.

  • Responsibility

Promoting the safe use of our products for operators, consumers and the environment.

  • Transparency

Giving clear information on our products that is faithful to the label, including the precautions for use.

  • Progress

Improving our solutions and advice with agronomic research and the needs of the field.

Our approach

From diagnosis to follow-up: four steps

Every recommendation starts in the field and comes back to it.

  1. Diagnosis

Walk the field, identify the weed, pest or disease, and assess the pressure and the crop stage.

  2. Recommendation

Propose the right solution, rate and timing, taking resistance management into account.

  3. Training

Train farmers and dealers in application, equipment calibration and safety rules.

  4. Follow-up

Check results in the field, adjust the programme and learn from one season to the next.

Our commitments

Quality and responsible use

Effective crop protection goes hand in hand with safe, well-managed use.

Authorised products

Selling in each country only products authorised by the competent authorities, labelled in the country's language.

Quality follow-up

Checking the condition of incoming batches, ensuring proper storage and keeping products traceable down to the sales outlet.

Faithful information

Providing technical sheets and advice consistent with the label, and never recommending an unauthorised use.

User training

Raising awareness among farmers and dealers of protective equipment, storage and good application practice.

Container management

Promoting triple rinsing and the collection of empty containers, and discouraging any re-use.

Care for the environment

Protecting pollinators, waterways and biodiversity through appropriate use recommendations.

Our teams

Teams working for farmers

In each country, complementary teams work together, from the office to the field.

  • Technical development

Agronomists and technicians: field demonstrations, recommendations, calendars and training.

  • Sales and distribution

Supporting depots, agro-dealers and partner cooperatives on the ground.

  • Regulatory affairs and safety

Monitoring authorisations, labelling, safety data sheets and good practice.

  • Logistics and warehousing

Storing products in suitable conditions and supplying outlets ahead of each season.

  • Marketing and communication

Product information, agronomy news and decision-support tools.

  • Customer service

Answering enquiries and quote requests, and directing customers to the nearest outlet.
